4D Glossary — Lottery Terms Explained

A comprehensive list of 4D lottery terms used in Malaysia, Singapore, and Southeast Asia. Sorted alphabetically. Click any term for a detailed explanation.

1+3D

A Da Ma Cai (DMC) game format combining a single digit with 3 digits. A variation of standard 4D.

4D

Four Digits. A lottery where players pick a 4-digit number (0000–9999) and win if it matches an officially drawn number.

ABC entry

A quick-pick method using three digits and one wildcard (e.g. 12X4). The system generates 10 lines for all values of X.

Big (Besar / 大)

A bet type covering 23 prize categories (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 10 Special, 10 Consolation). Lower payouts but higher chance of winning.

Box Bet (= iBox)

Consolation

10 consolation prize numbers drawn in every Big game. Smaller payouts but won more frequently.

DMC

Da Ma Cai. One of the three major 4D operators in Malaysia (alongside Magnum and Sports Toto).

Draw / Cabutan / 开彩 / 추첨

The official event where winning numbers are determined. Regular draws: Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday at 7 PM.

iBox / Permutation

A bet that wins when any permutation of your number is drawn. Payout is divided by the number of unique permutations.

Jackpot

A top prize that rolls over when not won. Used primarily in Magnum 4D Jackpot and Toto 4D Jackpot games.

Lucky Pick / Quick Pick

A random number generated by the terminal. Useful when the player has no specific preference.

Magnum 4D

The oldest 4D operator in Malaysia. Operating since 1968. One of the three main operators.

Mark Six

Hong Kong's lottery (6/49 format), often confused with 4D. Different format and market.

Permutation

Arrangement of digits. A 4-digit number can have 24 unique permutations (all different), 12 (one repeating pair), 6 (two pairs), 4 (three same).

Roll

A number-picking variation with one "open" digit (e.g. R234, where R = 0–9 produces 10 lines).

Sabah 88

A 4D operator in East Malaysia (Sabah). Has different draw schedule and prize structure from Peninsular operators.

SG Pools

Singapore Pools. The sole official 4D operator in Singapore. Different prize structure from Malaysia.

Small (Kecil / 小)

A bet type covering only the top 3 prizes (1st, 2nd, 3rd). Higher payouts but lower chance of winning.

Special

10 special prize numbers in Big games (between the main prizes and consolation).

Special Draw

An additional draw held on Tuesdays (usually). Operators announce the dates in advance.

Sports Toto

A major 4D operator in Malaysia. Sweepstake-based format; also runs Toto 4D, 5D, 6D.

Strike

Player slang for "winning". "Strike 1st prize" = winning the first prize.

Sweep

A fixed-prize game format based on tickets sold. Opposite of pari-mutuel format.

System Entry

See iBox / Permutation. Allows all digit arrangements to count as winners.

Wager

The amount staked. Minimum RM1 per line in Malaysia.
